Why Your Resume Gets Rejected Before a Recruiter Reads It
Diagnose the common reasons resumes get filtered out: missing keywords, weak evidence, formatting issues, and role mismatch.
The resume does not look like the job
If your resume was built for every role, it may rank for none. ATS tools and recruiters both look for alignment with the job’s language, responsibilities, and seniority. A resume that says “operations support” may miss a posting that asks for “vendor management,” even when your work included vendor management every week.
The evidence is too vague
Recruiters skim for proof. Bullets that say managed, helped, supported, assisted, or participated are weak unless they explain scope and result. Give the reader the metric, workflow, team size, customer group, volume, revenue, savings, risk, or quality improvement behind the work.
The format hides your qualifications
A beautiful resume can still fail if the parser sees fragments. Complex templates, icons, sidebars, and inconsistent headings can scramble the text. If an ATS checker cannot confidently identify your skills and jobs, simplify the layout before rewriting the content.
The resume answers the wrong question
A hiring team is not asking whether you are generally talented. They are asking whether you can solve the problems in this specific role. The top third of your resume should answer that question quickly with targeted title language, strongest matching skills, and one or two proof points.

- ✓Move the most relevant proof into the first half of the page.
