How to Tailor Your Resume to a Job Description in 15 Minutes

Read the job description once for meaning, then a second time with a highlighter mindset. Mark required skills, tools, industries, deliverables, and outcomes. Ignore vague filler like “self-starter” unless it connects to a concrete responsibility.

Move the most relevant bullets higher within each role. If a job wants lifecycle marketing and your third bullet proves lifecycle work, promote it. You are not changing history; you are making the relevant evidence easier to find.

Choose the three bullets closest to the target role and rewrite them with the employer’s language. Add tools, metrics, customers, teams, or timelines where they strengthen the match.

Confirm the resume is still truthful, easy to scan, and formatted cleanly. Then test it against the job description. If the most important missing keyword reflects real experience, add it in context. If it does not, leave it out.
